Locked Horns’ own Paul DeNigris has been asked to produce material for a three-screen video installation highlighting the work of DeBartolo Architects, to debut at the ASU College of Design on January 30, 2008.
Artist Mark Vinci is co-directing the videos with Paul; Keegan Ead will be producing timelapse images.
On December 1, Locked Horns’ Paul DeNigris traveled to Grants, New Mexico, to do some guest-directing on dramatic recreation footage for the 220 Productions documentary “Poison Wind.” The location: a replica of a working uranium mine underneath the New Mexico Mining Museum.
The film, on which Paul is the Post-Production Supervisor, is produced and directed by Jenny Pond and edited by Keegan Ead, both former students of Paul’s at the University of Advancing Technology Digital Video Program. Began when Jenny first learned of uranium mining leases being pursued in the Grand Canyon, the film has become a document of the horrors of conventional mining practices and their impact on Native Americans in Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.
During the editing process, the team realized that some dramatic recreations of life in the uranium mines would be a powerful way to illustrate some of the points being spoken by the miners whose families have been directly affected by their former lives in the mines. With some lighting cues right out of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, great period-accurate clothing and tools, and the cooperation of the New Mexico Mining Museum, the team produced some stunning images for inclusion in the film. Photographer Dave Arnold was on hand and has published a gallery of the day’s work.
